Redefining Digital Dating by Prioritizing Intentional Connection.
The current market suffers from digital fatigue and superficial matching. Laila aimed to shift the focus from quantity to quality matches using a complex, multi-layered filtration system based on user activity and long-term goals.

Uncovering the Core Problem: From Swiping Fatigue to Intentionality.
The core challenge in the prevailing dating app market is the promotion of digital fatigue and a fast-consumption culture. Users were lost in an abundance of superficial options, diminishing their intent to form meaningful connections. Laila’s core business goal was not maximizing time-on-app, but maximizing the Quality Date Rate by emphasizing "Slow Dating" principles.
Strategic Focus
Extensive user research and market analysis confirmed the necessity of pivoting the app around the "Slow Dating" philosophy. My strategic focus was to design a richer profile creation experience that genuinely reflects the user's intent and values. This required structured data entry fields that clarify the user's dating motivation and expectations, moving beyond mere photos and short bios. This was a critical UX decision directly supporting the product's commercial logic.
Information Architecture & UX Mapping
To achieve Laila's goal of "Intentionality," the complex, multifaceted filtration algorithm running in the backend needed to be transparent and manageable in the user interface. The primary design difficulty was ensuring users could personalize these deep filters without feeling overwhelmed.
To manage this complexity, I designed a modular Information Architecture (IA) that separated matching preferences into "Hard Filters" and "Soft Preferences."
Hard Filters: Grouping essential matching criteria (age range, distance, etc.) into a single, unambiguous settings screen.
Soft Preferences: Designing a dynamic tagging system to connect user data like interests and values with the profile creation and matching flow
Outcome
This structural separation resulted in a 22% increase in the completion rate of the settings screen and significantly strengthened the perceived trust in the match quality.
