Türk Telekom Design System

Design System Owner & Lead Product Designer (Mobile)

Scope

Mobile app, widget system, token architecture, theming, component structure

Team:

Worked closely with developers and product analysts

Token based multi-brand mode system for mobile experiences

Türk Telekom needed a scalable mobile design system that could support multiple sub-brand modes, partner themes, membership tiers across mobile and wifi products.

The System Challenge

The product needed to support several types of variation:

Sub-brand and partner modes such as Selfy, Bimcell, Prime

iOS and Android platform needs

Shared card patterns across mobile and home internet experiences

Scalable components that could work across different contexts

The system separated visual decisions into reusable layers

Core UI foundations

Semantic design decisions

Theme-level overrides

Component-level rules

Platform-specific implementation details

This made it possible to update the appearance of selected surfaces while keeping the underlying interaction patterns, layout logic and usability rules consistent.

Key Decisions

Use modes instead of separate brand files

I used Figma variables and modes to manage visual variations for sub-brands such as Selfy, Bimcell, Fenercell, Teknocell, GSCell and Türk Telekom Prime.

Without a shared mode structure, each brand variation could become a separate design branch and increase long-term maintenance effort.

The same core UI behavior could stay consistent while the visual layer adapted to different brand and business needs.

Reuse card structures across product contexts

I structured card components with variables so they could support different data types across mobile and home internet experiences.

Usage, billing, package details and device status had different content needs, but they shared similar hierarchy and interaction patterns.

Reusable card patterns helped the product scale across different contexts while keeping hierarchy and usability predictable.

Design

I kept the core usability rules stable underneath both: consistent hierarchy, predictable card behavior and reusable variables that could support change without fragmenting the product.

Outcome

Reduced the need for one-off screen variations

Created a scalable mode structure for sub-brands

Supported reusable card patterns across mobile and internet experiences

Improved design-dev alignment through variables and reusable component logic

Made the widget experience feel connected to the broader mobile system

Reflections

This project strengthened the way I think about design systems. Not only as component libraries, but as decision-making structures between product, business and engineering needs.

If I continued evolving the system, I would focus on deeper component documentation, accessibility rules for every state and a more formal contribution model for future product teams.
